Destiny Garcia is a devoted mother, advocate, and woman in recovery. She is passionate about living in recovery loudly, and her personal story of perseverance and second chances has reached the halls of Congress and national media. As executive director of Clean Slate Utah, Destiny advocates for second chance hiring and the life-changing benefits of record clearance for justice-impacted Utahns. Having personally navigated the expungement process, she understands the profound barriers that a criminal record can place on individuals and families. Destiny is committed to expanding awareness of Utah’s transformative Clean Slate law, which helps individuals clear their old records and rebuild their lives. She also pushes for the national expansion of this policy and works to make expungement accessible to all Utahns—regardless of income—believing that everyone deserves a fair chance to succeed.In recognition of her work, Destiny received the 2023 Liberty Bell Award from the Utah State Bar, honoring her significant contributions to promoting the understanding of the law, fostering respect for the justice system, and encouraging civic responsibility.
